WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE A HEALTHY SPERMS?

For conception, both the sex cells ovum and sperm must be healthy. After ejaculation the sperm begins its journey in the uterus towards ovum. These sperm cells are highly competitive. Some cannot move fast or the ones with weak motility is not able to move fast to reach the egg and create a child. Some have a problem with low production of sperms. There are many other parameters of sperm that results in infertility. Thus for conception to take place, healthy sperm is a major contributing factor.

UNDERSTANDING SPERM COUNT AND SPERM MOTILITY

The term used for low sperm count is oligospermia. Sperm count means the number of healthy sperms in the semen that are able to fertilize an egg. Count of less than 20 million sperm per milliliter is considered as low sperm count. Oligospermia in Ayurveda is called shukranu alpata. Sjukranu alpata is a result of poor life style and food habits, stress etc.

The ability of the sperm to move efficiently is called sperm motility. If the sperm motility is weak it can cause infertility. The term used for poor motility is asthenozoospermia and it is diagnosed when motile sperms are less than 32%.
